If writing is going well, a liquid indulgence is just the shot in the arm the muse requires to keep fizzing along. Similarly if it is sluggish, a liquid restorative is just the ticket needed to jump-start creativity. I cannot remember which of these appertained when this photo was taken, but it must have been one or the other. I am at The Bull on Shooter’s Hill, clearly ready to bend the elbow. For those who do not know the establishment, it is a corking pub right at the crest of the summit: real ales, cash only, open fire, dog with a ball fixation. And just opposite is Oxleas Woods – so if you are the type who likes a yomp amidst stately oaks post-pint then this is the place for you.
